Ballet Royale Institute of Maryland is a premiere school for classical ballet and related performing arts. Located in the DC/ Baltimore area, BRIM is Creating Opportunities for the young dancer. American Ballet Theatre's National Training Curriculum Is followed at BRIM.

All students who are ready, have the choice to participate in an annual examination should their teacher feel that their work is strong enough. This procedure allows each student to feel a sense of accomplishment and is rewarded with a certificate from ABT'S National Training Curriculum.

What we teach:

Twinkle Toes (ages 2/3) and Ballet Intro

An introduction with ballet basics, through creative movement and music. Parent is allowed with the child.

Pre - Primary (ages 3/4)

Center Practice with ballet basics, through creative movement and gross motor skills with an emphasis on musical phrasing. Walking, running, skipping, imaginative and creative dance. Parent is allowed with the child.

Pre - Primary (ages 4/5)

Center Practice with ballet basics, through creative movement and gross motor skills with an emphasis on musical phrasing. Walking, running, skipping, imaginative and creative dance. Child attends without parent.

Level Primary A, B, C  (5-7 years and older)

Posture awareness, understanding of spacial instructions. Perform movement to a defined musical phrase, dance musically and rhythmically. Basic positions of arms, legs and feet.

Level 1 (8 years and older)

All of the previous vocabulary and adding new positions of the feet, arms, basic body directions, arabesques, movement directions with an emphasis on correct alignment. Focus on turn-out and core strength with simple stretches to increase flexibility. Barre exercises are introduced.

Level 2  (9 years and older)

All of the previous vocabulary. Performing most of the barre work with one hand on the barre. Working releve, echappe on demi pointe also at barre. Bringing barre work into center practice increasing vocabulary with adagio, allegro and pirouettes.

Level 3  (10-12 years and older)

All of the previous vocabulary, increasing knowledge of movements and adding demi pointe work and pointe work. Pointe work is not added until the student is completely ready (never before the age of 11). With a teacher's permission and with possible x-ray to be sure that the foot and body are strong enough.

Level 4  (11-14 years and older)

Students should have a basic knowledge of the previous levels and theory. Barre exercises, center exercises, pointe work are a part of the class. Seperate Pointe classes are taught. Character dance is added.

The Pidel Conservatory

Ballet Royale is a professional training program for aspiring students of dance, beginner through advanced levels and offered a professional level of training for 25 years. In celebration of that achievement, The Pidel Conservatory at Ballet Royale has been introduced to take the student to the next level.
